I'm writing to urge you to vote in favor of HB2, a bill that would require universal background checks on all firearm purchases in Virginia, ensuring that guns don’t get into the hands of dangerous people.

Gun violence costs the state of Virginia more than $1.9 billion in directly measurable costs. When indirect costs that impact families and communities, such as pain and suffering, are factored in, the overall estimate of the economic cost of gun violence rises to $5.3 billion per year.

Everyone should have the opportunity to live and work in a thriving community without fear of gun violence. Responsible gun owners and families in our community are coming together to strengthen the Second Amendment by making sure we can keep dangerous weapons out of the hands of people who mean harm. No one should live in fear of going to work, the movie theater, or to worship services. We need to all come together in action to make we can safe and healthy communities a reality for all of us, no exceptions.
