Make voter registration automatic in Virginia!

The state Senate is considering a bill to automate and modernize voter registration in Virginia. Our democracy is strongest when everyone has a say. Email your Senator now and urge them to support automatic voter registration in Virginia!

I'm writing to urge you to vote in favor of SB219, a bill that would make voter registration automatic in Virginia.

Automatic Voter Registration (AVR) will use the existing data link between the DMV and the Department of Elections to automate the voter registration process and automatically register eligible voters unless they opt out. This proposal will protect the fundamental right of eligible Virginia citizens who can sometimes find it a challenge to keep their registration updated—like Virginians in the military who move frequently or face deployment—to participate in our democracy and have their vote counted.

AVR will create a secure electronic voter registration database to maintain accurate lists as well as verify that only eligible voters are registered. AVR will modernize the outdated paper-based voter registration system and replace it with a secure electronic process.

Every eligible voter should be able to cast a ballot in our elections. By coming together to enact an AVR system so that every eligible voter can make their voice heard in our democracy without barriers or obstacles.

For these reasons, I'm urging you to vote in favor of SB219.
